Councillor Calls for Rethink on Grass Cutting

Inverkeithing, Dalgety Bay & Aberdour Conservative Councillor Dave Dempsey has called for a rethink on Fife Council ‘s policy of leaving grass cuttings where they fall. This follows complaints from local residents.

Cllr Dempsey said “For some years it’s been policy to cut grassed areas and leave the cuttings in situ or blown ont

o surrounding pavements. This doesn’t look great but it generally hasn’t led to formal complaints.

However, this year’s dismal weather has resulted in a lot of lost days. Consequently, the grass cuttings have been longer, wetter and altogether untidier. In places, this has led residents to complain.

I have every sympathy for the Council staff involved. They’re doing what they’re instructed to do and doing it this year in particularly trying circumstances. I’m sure they would prefer to go a stage further and leave the grass neat and tidy. It’s time for the Council to consider how much more it would cost to finish the job off and whether the public would see that as money well spent.”
