Councillor Heer calls for retention of out of hours GP service

Councillor Andy Heer has added his voice to the campaign to retain the out of hours GP service at Glenrothes Hospital.

North Glenrothes Community Council is supporting the campaign begun by MSP Tricia Marwick and MP Lindsay Roy to save the service.

However the issue of out of hours GP cover affects communities in the Howe of Fife as well as Glenrothes says Councillor Heer.

“I realise that Glenrothes Hospital doesn't have all the clinical facilities provided at the Victoria Hospital but I believe that the presence of a GP to provide an initial assessment as to the seriousness of a patient's condition is invaluable,” he said.

“Patients from the Howe of Fife can reach Glenrothes Hospital in a matter of minutes and be quickly seen by a GP instead of a much longer journey to Kirkcaldy where there are difficulties in parking and then often a lengthy wait to be seen.”

“I believe that the benefits and advantages of this important community facility far outweigh the modest financial savings that will be achieved by its removal.”
