John Swinney has been urged to “come clean” on what tactics he will deploy in the event of the SNP winning a majority of seats in next May’s Holyrood election.
The SNP leader told his party conference at the weekend that “nobody knows what tactics I will deploy” after his strategy to pursue another independence referendum was backed by delegates.
His remarks were subsequently backed by Nicola Sturgeon who said: “I’ve known John Swinney for a long time and if he says he has a secret plan, he has a secret plan.”
Scottish Conservative deputy leader Rachael Hamilton has now written to the First Minister asking him to tell Scots what tactics he is planning to deploy.
She has also urged him to reveal if taxpayers’ money is being spent on any “secret plan” to secure another referendum and if civil servants are now working on his latest “divisive” strategy.
Rachael added Scots are “sick and tired” of John Swinney pursuing his independence obsession at any cost while neglecting Scotland’s economy and public services.
Scottish Conservative deputy leader Rachael Hamilton MSP said: “John Swinney apparently has tactics he will deploy in the event of an SNP majority next year, but he refuses to tell Scots what they are.
“They have the right to know just what measures he will take to try and secure another independence referendum.
“John Swinney’s lifelong dream has been to break up the United Kingdom so he must come clean on what he is planning on doing next May.
“His secret plan has already been backed by Nicola Sturgeon who he was so slavishly loyal to for almost a decade.
“Scots are sick and tired of the SNP continuing to obsess over independence at the expense of everything else.
“Our economy is stagnating; bills are rising and public services are crumbling yet John Swinney continues to pour all his energy into another divisive independence strategy.
“All of this is why it is so important that we get this rotten SNP government out at next May’s election so we can finally move on from their independence obsession.”
