Ruth Davidson has urged pro-UK voters in Aberdeen South to unite behind the Scottish Conservatives in next week’s crucial by-election to elect a new MP for the constituency.
The former Scottish Conservative leader will be joining the party’s candidate Douglas Lumsden and local activists on the campaign trail this weekend, with the vote just a matter of days away.
The constituency is a clear two-horse race between Douglas Lumsden and the SNP, with Ruth saying that a vote for any other party, including Reform, will only help the nationalists win the constituency.
She says pro-UK voters in Aberdeen South must do the right thing and vote for the Scottish Conservatives on June 18th, otherwise they will wake up next Friday morning to another SNP MP.
Ruth says that Douglas is the only candidate who can be trusted to relentlessly champion North Sea workers and reverse the “reckless” anti-oil-and-gas policies of the SNP and Labour.
Douglas added that he is delighted to be welcoming Ruth on the campaign trail again and says that he will be fighting for every vote ahead of Thursday.
Ahead of hitting the campaign trail in Aberdeen South, Ruth Davidson said: “This by-election is on a knife-edge, and I am excited to be joining our fantastic candidate Douglas Lumsden and his team on the final weekend of campaigning.
“Aberdeen South’s next MP will either be a Scottish Conservative MP, in Douglas Lumsden, who will relentlessly champion the oil and gas industry , or an SNP MP who will only accelerate the decline of the North Sea.
“No other party can beat the SNP here. That is why pro-UK voters in Aberdeen South must unite on Thursday and vote for Douglas Lumsden to be their new MP.
“If they vote for any other party, including Reform, then they will wake up on Friday morning with another SNP MP.
“Douglas Lumsden is the only candidate who can be trusted to reverse the reckless policies from the SNP and Labour that are destroying the oil and gas sector.”
Scottish Conservative candidate for Aberdeen South Douglas Lumsden added: “I’m delighted Ruth is going to be joining me on the campaign trail again with the vote just a few days away.
“Every vote will count in Aberdeen South on June 18th and I’m determined to fight for every single one.
“This by-election is personal for me having worked in the industry for 25 years. I’m angry about what anti-oil-and-gas SNP and Labour politicians are doing to this city.
“If all pro-UK voters unite behind me then Aberdeen South can have an MP who will always stand up for oil and gas workers and back plans to get Britain drilling again.”
