Scottish Conservative candidates have pledged to put in every possible bid for Levelling Up and Community Renewal funds from the UK Government if elected in May.
Ahead of a visit to the Crichton Trust in Dumfries, which has benefitted from UK Government funds, Douglas Ross said electing Scottish Conservative councillors would give local areas the “best shot” at securing even more Levelling Up grants.
The Scottish Conservative Leader hailed the £190 million-plus invested in Scotland through UK Government funds, including £20 million for the Aberdeen City Centre Master Plan, £20 million for the Falkirk Westfield roundabout and £13 million towards the Pollok Stables and Sawmill in Glasgow.
The £190 million-plus of UK Government investment comprises £172m for successful Levelling Up Fund bids, £18m for successful Community Renewal Fund bids and a further £1m for successful Community Ownership Fund bids.
Douglas Ross added that Scottish Conservative councillors would support more direct UK Government investment in Scotland, no matter the complaints from SNP ministers.
Scottish Conservative Leader Douglas Ross said: “UK Government Levelling Up and Community Renewal funds have the potential to boost local economies, deliver jobs and rejuvenate communities across Scotland.
“More direct UK Government investment in Scotland can only be a good thing. The SNP can shout about power grabs all they like but what’s really important is the money reaches Scotland’s communities, not which government is spending it.
“The odd SNP council didn’t even bother to apply for these funds, although even many nationalist-run administrations ignored the SNP Government’s rhetoric and submitted applications.
“Electing more Scottish Conservative councillors will give each local area the best shot at securing more investment for transformational projects.
“On May the 5th, your vote for the Scottish Conservatives can beat the SNP and deliver on your local priorities by ensuring more investment in your community.”
