The Scottish Conservative campaign to unseat SNP MPs is going “full steam ahead”, Douglas Ross said today on a General Election visit to a railway station in Brechin.
He was joined on the campaign trail by Scottish Conservative candidate for Angus and Perthshire Glens, Stephen Kerr.
They went on a tour of the Caledonian Railway station including its heritage museum and the train line.
Campaigners previously tried to secure UK Levelling Up funds for the popular tourist attraction but the local SNP council refused to support their bid.
They had hoped to apply for UK funding to develop an active travel route between Brechin Station and Andover School, improve coach and EV facilities, reinstate the Brechin Railway turntable, and develop green energy facilities.
Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross said: “Our campaign to beat the SNP and end their obsession with independence is going full steam ahead.
“John Swinney’s shameless defence of Michael Matheson is turning more and more local people away from the SNP.
“We’re asking voters to come together and take the opportunity to remove the SNP from every seat possible. We have a big chance in this election, but we need to seize it.
“In key seats up and down Scotland, like here in Angus, only the Scottish Conservatives can defeat the SNP and get all of the focus onto local people’s top priorities.”
Scottish Conservative candidate for Angus and Perthshire Glens, Stephen Kerr, said: “This area is in desperate need of investment but local SNP politicians won’t even support campaigners who try to make things happen.
“We need to beat the SNP so that all of the attention in future years is on the things that really matter to local people, such as growing the economy and creating more good jobs.
“The General Election in Angus and Perthshire Glens is a straight fight between me and the SNP candidate. If everyone who wants to beat the SNP comes together, the Scottish Conservatives can get the nationalists out.”
