FMQs: NHS deserves better than ‘dishonest’ Neil Gray

The Scottish Conservatives said today the NHS deserved better than the “dishonest and disgraced” health secretary Neil Gray.

At First Minister’s Questions, Russell Findlay said the SNP minister was failing to bring down waiting lists and had left the NHS in crisis.

The Scottish Conservative leader added that Neil Gray’s misleading statements to the Scottish Parliament over the use of his ministerial limo to attend football matches should be investigated by the independent adviser to the ministerial code.

Scottish Conservative leader Russell Findlay said: “Waiting times for life-changing and life-saving operations keep going up. People are unable to get an appointment to see a GP or a dentist. Targets are being missed so regularly that they have often become meaningless.

“Neil Gray is giving Humza Yousaf and Michael Matheson a run for their money as the SNP’s worst ever health secretary.

“John Swinney is standing by Neil Gray, just like he backed Michael Matheson and Humza Yousaf. He appears to have given a free pass to his distracted health secretary no matter what he does.

“Long-suffering patients deserve honest leadership in this time of crisis.

“Neil Gray misled parliament but didn’t come clean right away. This flagrant breach must be investigated by the independent adviser to the ministerial code.

“Patients will continue to be let down by another dishonest and disgraced health secretary who is failing to bring down waiting lists.

“In the real world, if someone can’t do their job properly or doesn’t tell the truth, they’d get the sack.

“Is it not time for John Swinney to show some leadership by sending Neil Gray in a chauffeur-driven limo to pick up his P45?”
